Error 30893: sample messages that match your use case
Last checked against official sources: October 30, 2026. Carrier rules change, so check the source links before you resubmit.
What it means
Twilio titles 30893 "Inconsistency between Sample Message and Use-case." Reviewers compare your sample texts with the use case you picked and the description you wrote. If the samples look like a different kind of messaging, or are too thin to judge, the campaign is sent back.
Why it usually happens
- Only one sample was entered, or the samples are placeholders like "test message."
- You chose a use case such as account notifications, but the samples are promotions (or the other way round).
- None of the samples mention your business name.
- No sample shows how to opt out.
- Variables are written as real data or left unexplained instead of being shown in [brackets].
How to fix it
- Write two to five samples that look like the texts you'll really send.
- Match them to the use case. Marketing samples belong in a marketing or mixed campaign; reminders belong in a notification-style one.
- Start at least one sample with your brand name and end it with an opt-out line such as "Reply STOP to opt out."
- Mark changing details with brackets, like [first name] or [date].
- Use your own domain for links. Generic public link shorteners trigger a separate rejection (30892).
- Re-read the campaign description so it describes the same messages the samples show.
- Edit and resubmit the rejected campaign rather than deleting it. A brand-new campaign means a new vetting fee and a fresh wait.
Example samples (made-up business, customer care use case)
Northgate Plumbing: Hi [first name], your technician [tech name] is on the way and should arrive around [time]. Reply STOP to opt out. Northgate Plumbing: Your repair on [date] is complete. Questions about the invoice? Reply HELP or call [phone]. Northgate Plumbing: Reminder - your annual water heater check is due [month]. Book at northgateplumbing.example/book
Northgate Plumbing is fictional. Write samples about your real messages.
Questions and answers
How many samples do I need?
At least two, and no more than five. Three solid ones is a good target.
Can my samples include links?
Yes, if they point to your own domain or a branded short link you control.
Does every sample need STOP?
Not every one, but at least one should, along with your business name.
My use case was wrong, not my samples. Now what?
Some details, including the use case, may not be editable after submission. If the use case itself is wrong you may need a new campaign; run your rejection through the checker first.
Next step
Run your rejection text through the free checker to confirm nothing else was flagged. If you'd rather not rewrite the fields yourself, our approval packets cover the description, samples, opt-in wording and policy text. Carriers make the final call, so we can't promise approval, but we revise free until it goes through.
